AI Data Processing
Last updated: March 28, 2026
When using AI features in ShellMind, your data is processed to provide AI-assisted troubleshooting and command suggestions. Below you will find detailed information about how your data is handled.
1. AI Providers
ShellMind integrates with the following AI providers:
- Google AI (BYOK): Gemini Flash 3, Gemini 2.5, and Gemma 3 when you bring your own API key
- MiniMax: MiniMax 2.7 included free during alpha, processed through ShellMind's official inference proxy
2. MiniMax Data Processing via ai.shellmind.app
ai.shellmind.app. This proxy is operated by ShellMind and acts as an intermediary between the application and MiniMax's API.
What data is sent to MiniMax:
When you use MiniMax AI features, the following data is transmitted through the ai.shellmind.app proxy:
- Prompts: Your questions and requests to the AI assistant
- Terminal Context: Relevant terminal output, command history, and system information you choose to share for context
- Session Metadata: Connection type and basic session information necessary for OS-aware suggestions
What data is NOT sent:
- Server credentials or authentication tokens
- Full filesystem contents
- Data from connections you have not explicitly shared with the AI
3. Data Handling by MiniMax
Data sent to MiniMax through our proxy is processed by MiniMax according to their privacy policy. ShellMind does not store or retain the prompts or responses exchanged with MiniMax beyond what is necessary for the current session.
4. BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) - Google AI
When using ShellMind with your own Google AI API key:
- Your API key is stored locally on your machine
- Data is sent directly to Google's AI services using your key
- Your usage is subject to Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service
- ShellMind does not have access to your API key or data sent directly to Google
5. Your Control Over AI Data
You have full control over what data is shared with AI features:
- You choose what terminal output and context to share with the AI
- You can disable AI features entirely in the application settings
- You can choose which AI provider to use (MiniMax or Google BYOK)
6. Retention
ShellMind does not retain AI interaction data on our servers. Data sent through the ai.shellmind.app proxy is processed in real-time and is not stored after the request is complete. Please refer to MiniMax's data retention policies for information about how they handle data.
7. Security
All data transmitted to ai.shellmind.app is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). The proxy infrastructure is designed to minimize data retention and logging.
8. Questions
If you have questions about how your data is processed when using AI features, please reach out via our GitHub repository.
